Dam Market History
Built around 1908, this market was called “Đầm” or “Cửa” because it used to be a 7 hectare pond, which was a way through Cai river outlet.
Because of its long existence, Dam market has become a part of the way of life for local Nha Trang people. Each morning Cho Dam comes alive with farmers and fisherman bring their fresh catch and produce to market. Cho Dam Market was officially redesignused in 1974 after the Vietnam War. The market is about 5.270 square meters and can hold up to 3,000 people at a time. A fire in 1975 slow down the growth of Cho Dam and the area eventualy became a department store in the 1980s.
